The use of DESs that contain not only the precursor itself but also some additional components that either provide certain functionality (e.g., drug delivery and controlled release, or electrical conductivity) to the resulting materials or direct their formation with a particular structure (e.g., hierarchical- type) offer an interesting economy of reagents. Moreover, DESs act as a reaction medium, so polymerizations are ultimately carried out in a solventless fashion.<\/p>\n<p>DESs also offer the possibility of using novel precursors \u2013 never used in conventional polymerizations \u2013 that either favor more efficient polymerization by decreasing the energy input required for reaction progress or allow introducing new funtionalities to the resulting materials.<\/p>\n<p>Representative examples included explored within the last years in our group include:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>DES-assisted radical polymerizations of acrylates and methacrylates<\/li>\n<li>DES-assisted formation of polyesters via polycondensation<\/li>\n<li>DES-assisted formation of resorcinol-formaldehyde (using either resorcinol itself or in combination with other phenol derivatives) resins via polycondensation and preparation of 3D hierarchical porous materials<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/div>\n<p>The\u00a0 resulting DES-based materials have been optimised for their use in a wide variety of applications ranging from energy storage and conversion devices (supercapacitors and metal free electrodes for fuel cells) and environmental science technologies (gas adsorption and separation) to biomedicine.<\/p>\n<p>Please refer to our selected list of publications to have a closer look to our research trajectory.<\/p>\n<div><strong>SELECTED LIST OF PUBLICATIONS<\/strong><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"\">\n<ol>\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.1016\/j.polymer.2022.125432\"><span style=\"color: #000000\">From polymer blends to a block copolymer: Ring-opening polymerization of L-lactide\/\u03b5-caprolactone eutectic system<\/span><\/a><\/strong><span style=\"color: #000000\">\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0<\/span><span style=\"color: #000000\">M.
