We currently participate in series of meetings related with ferroelectrics, electroceramics and piezoelectrics. As Jos\u00e9 Ortega y Gasset, the famous Spanish philosopher, said “Man has no intrinsic characteristics other than history”. It is possible to say that scientists, as humans, are not only variable but also grow and, in this sense, progress. The following is part of our history.<\/p>\n

Spanish RNE<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n

We have attended and organized or been Members of International Steering Committees of, among others, the Spanish “Reuni\u00f3n Nacional de Electrocer\u00e1mica”<\/a><\/strong> (RNE), whose recently past Editions were:<\/p>\n

25-27 June, 2025: Electrocer\u00e1mica17, The XVII Edition, at Pamplona<\/a><\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

28-30 June, 2023: Electrocer\u00e1mica16, The XVI Edition, at Jaca<\/a><\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

7-9 July, 2021: EC15, The XV Edition, at Vitoria <\/a><\/strong><\/em> and<\/p>\n

26-28 June , <\/a><\/strong><\/em>2019: EC14, The XIV Edition, at Castell\u00f3n.<\/a><\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

Piezoelectrics for End Users<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n

We were also involved in the Electroceramics for End-users (PIEZO20XX). The last editions of Meetings organized by the European Institute of Piezoelectric Materials and Devices (Piezoinstitute) were:<\/p>\n

ECEU XII<\/a><\/strong> took place at the University of Glasgow, UK, 5-9 November, 2023.<\/p>\n

PIEZO2021:<\/a><\/strong> Piezoelectrics for End Users XI was hold on 21-24 February 2021 at the University of Sassari, Sardinia, Italy, and was, for the first time, fully virtual.<\/p>\n

PIEZO2019<\/a><\/strong> took place in \u0160pindler\u016fv Ml\u00fdn in the Czech Republic on January 27-30, 2019,<\/p>\n

PIEZO2017<\/strong> took place in Cercedilla (Madrid, Spain), 19-22 February, 2017. PIEZO2017 was co-organised together with CSIC and UPM. The meeting continued its well established tradition of presenting the latest research and developments on piezoelectric and multifunctional materials, technologies and devices, and of bringing together academia and industry within the field for discussion and networking. PIEZO2017<\/strong><\/em> gathered together the first class touristic attraction of the city of Madrid and the possibilities of the Navacerrada and Valdesqu\u00ed sky resorts.<\/p>\n

Electroceramics for End-users (PIEZO20XX) is a series of conferences dedicated to advances in electroactive, particularly piezoceramic, materials and devices with a long tradition. It was established by the POLECER Thematic network of EU and continued by the MIND Network of Excellence. It started in Interlaken, Switzerland, “Piezoelectric Materials for End Users (I)<\/em>“, in 2002. Following conferences were in Capri, Italy, “Polar Oxides Symposium<\/em>“, in 2003; Bled, Slovenia, “Processing of Electroceramics<\/em>“, in 2003; Courmayeur, Italy, “Material Technology and Design of Integrated Piezoelectric Devices<\/em>“, in 2004; Abey\u00e9 les Vaux de Cernay, France, “Electroactive Materials and Sustainable Growth<\/em>“, in 2005; Lillehammer, Norway, “Piezoceramics for End Users II<\/em>“, in 2006; Liberec, Czech Republic, “Piezoelectricity for End Users III”, in <\/em>2007; Zakopane, Poland, “Electroceramics for End Users IV<\/em>“, 2009; Sestriere, Italy, “Electroceramics for End Users V” <\/em>2011; Les Arcs, France, “Electroceramics for End Users VI”<\/em>, in 2013 and , Slovenia, “Electroceramics for End Users VII”<\/em>, in 2015.<\/p>\n

EMF and related<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n

Also, we were linked to The European Congress on Applications of Polar Dielectrics (ECAPD) and The International (IMF) and European Meetings on Ferroelectricity (EMF).<\/p>\n

Since it began in 1988 in Z\u00fcrich, Switzerland, ECAPD has grown to become one of Europe’s premier conferences. The last European Conference on Applications of Polar Dielectrics<\/strong><\/a> took place 16 – 19 June 2024 in Trondheim, Norway. The next edition will take place at Oulu, Finland from 7-10 June, 2026. The theme for ECAPD 2026<\/strong><\/a> is Next-generation polar dielectricians. The theme emphasizes the importance of the works carried out by scientists in their early career stages.<\/p>\n

International and European Meetings on Ferroelectricity have a long tradition in Europe. Renowned scientists have attended these meetings. This is the case of Prof.K. Alexander M\u00fcller, 1997 winner of the Nobel Price in Physics for his work on high temperature superconductivity in perovskite type structure oxides, Prof. William Cochram, awarded, among others, with the 1978 Hughes Medal of the Royal Society for his works in X-ray diffraction and lattice dynamics applied to phase transitions. The next Edition, EMF16, is planned to be in 2029 at the University of Vilnius, Vilnius, Lithuania.<\/p>\n

The last Edition of The European Meeting on Ferroelectricity<\/strong><\/a>, EMF15, took place in Katowice, Poland (31 August-15 September, 2025).EMF15 was a joint event with the Polish-Lithuanian-Ukrainian (PLU7) Meeting on Ferroics. It was first planned, in 2023 (EMF-15), but was not hold due to the geographical and temporal proximity of IMF-15 (Tel-Aviv, Israel, 26-30 March, 2023). In 2019, EMF was hold in Lausanne, Switzerland as F2Cp2 Conference. EMF2019 was a joint event with ISAF (International Symposium on Applications of Ferroelectrics)-ICE (International Conference on Electroceramics- IWPM (International Workshop on PiezoMEMS) and PFM(Piezoresponse Force Microscopy Workshop)<\/span><\/p>\n

Dr. L. Pardo participated at the 13th<\/sup> European Meeting on Ferroelectricity (EMF) at Porto (Portugal) from 28th<\/sup> June to 3rd<\/sup> July, 2015, for the first time as Member of the EMF Steering Committee. Her election was a decision at the Committee meeting of the 12th<\/sup> EMF held in Bordeaux (France) from 26th<\/sup> June to 11st<\/sup> July 2011.<\/p>\n

The 11th<\/sup> EMF took place from 3rd<\/sup> to 7th<\/sup> September 2007 in Bled (Slovenia) and the 10th<\/sup> EMF took place from 3rd<\/sup> to 8th<\/sup> August, 2003 in Cambridge (UK). The most recent International Meetings of Ferroelectricity (IMF) that took place were the 13th<\/sup> IMF held from 2nd<\/sup>  to 6th<\/sup>  September 2013 in Krakow (Poland), the 12th<\/sup> IMF from 23rd<\/sup> to 27th<\/sup> August 2009 at Xi’an (China) and the 11th<\/sup> IMF from 5th<\/sup> to 9th<\/sup> September, 2005 at Cataratas del Iguaz\u00fa\/Foz do Igua\u00e7u (Argentina\/Brazil).<\/p>\n

The 10th<\/sup> International Meeting on Ferroelectricity was held in Madrid, Spain, on September 3rd<\/sup>-7th<\/sup> 2001 and provided an up to date general view of the current activity in the field of ferroelectricity and related areas.  The series of posters that can be found below  is a remembrance of each of the eighteen previous International and European Meetings on Ferroelectricity. It constitutes an historical project based on the idea of Prof. J. Gonzalo, the Chairman of the 10th<\/sup> IMF.<\/p>\n

The first IMF of the XXI century, brought an excellent opportunity to take a glance at the past.<\/p>\n

This project was possible thanks to the carefully collected items of the past, and the enthusiasm and the effort of the members of the Department of Ferroelectric Materials at ICMM-CSIC at that time, in particular: Prof. B. Jim\u00e9nez, Dr. E. Maurer, Dr. L. Pardo, Dr. M. Alguer\u00f3, Dr. R. Poyato and Dr. A. Moure. The editorial and graphic material also included contributions of Prof. J. Gonzalo, Prof. J. Fousek, Prof. L. E. Cross, Dr. W. A. Smith, Prof. C. Moure, Dr. Rafael Jim\u00e9nez-Riobo\u00f3, Dr. A. Ando, Dr. J. Albers and Dr. Michel Jannin.<\/p>\n
