Rizo-Molina<\/strong>,&nbsp;A.Begu\u00e9,&nbsp;<strong>M.<\/strong><strong>&nbsp;<\/strong><strong>Jaafar<\/strong>,&nbsp;R.&nbsp;Ranchal<\/p>\n<p>Materials Today Communications 53, 115320 (2026).<\/p>\n<p>DOI: 10.1016\/j.mtcomm.2026.115320<\/p>\n<p>This work focuses on the fabrication of hybrid magnetoelectric heterostructures formed by magnetostrictive Ni<sub>90<\/sub>Fe<sub>10<\/sub>&nbsp;films electrodeposited on Y-cut 128\u00b0 LiNbO<sub>3<\/sub>&nbsp;(LN) piezoelectric substrates, a cut widely used for surface acoustic waves (SAWs). X-ray diffractometry (XRD) measurements with out-of-plane (OOP) applied voltage demonstrate the deformation of the magnetostrictive film despite the partial presence of nonpiezoelectric LiNbO<sub>2<\/sub>&nbsp;(LNO) in the substrates. Magneto-optical Kerr effect (MOKE) measurements reveal how the LN substrate induces an uniaxial in-plane (IP) magnetic anisotropy in the Ni<sub>90<\/sub>Fe<sub>10<\/sub>&nbsp;film with the easy axis along LN&nbsp;\u0305&nbsp;and the hard axis along LN&nbsp;directions, respectively. Analysis of the strain tensor of the LN substrate confirms that the experimentally observed changes in the Ni<sub>90<\/sub>Fe<sub>10<\/sub>&nbsp;magnetostrictive layer are consistent with the mechanical deformation induced by the substrate. Voltage-dependent MOKE hysteresis loops show converse magnetoelectric couplings of&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;= (-0.10 \u00b1 0.02) \u03bcs\/m in the hard magnetic axis of the Ni<sub>90<\/sub>Fe<sub>10 <\/sub>layer, and &nbsp;= (-0.16 \u00b1 0.01) \u03bcs\/m at 45\u00b0 with respect to it, despite the presence of the non-piezoelectric LNO secondary phase in the commercial substrate. The robustness of the magnetoelectric coupling is confirmed, exhibiting no visible degradation in the remanence signal after dozens of polarization cycles.
