\"\"<\/a> An exceptionally gifted child, the Swede mathematician Per Enflo[1]<\/sup><\/a> started playing piano at the age of seven. Some five years latter he performed as a soloist with the Royal Orchestra of Sweden, starting a career as concert pianist that he never abandoned. In the meantime, Enflo also studied Physics and Mathematics, becoming an eminent mathematician that has made important contributions to functional analysis. He is currently University Professor at Kent State University and has held positions at University of California in Berkeley, Stanford University, \u00c9cole Polytechnique (Paris) and The Royal Institute of Technology (Stockholm).<\/p>\n

Talking about his beginnings as a mathematician, Enflo says: \u00abI was going about doing mathematics research with the idea, that I should create some very personal \u00abpiece of art\u00bb – in a similar way as composing a piece of music or interpreting a piece of music.\u00bb When asked about his decision to go into mathematics instead of music Enflo says \u00abI have never made, and will never make, any such decision.\u00bb[1]<\/sup><\/a> In addition to his job as a Professor and Researcher, Enflo continues with his piano career. Enflo also works on interdisciplinary science topics, such as Human Evolution\/Population Genetics (about the Neandertals), Mathematical Biology and Acoustics.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>El matem\u00e1tico sueco Per Enflo[1]<\/sup><\/a> fue un ni\u00f1o superdotado que empez\u00f3 a tocar el piano a los siete a\u00f1os. Unos cinco a\u00f1os despu\u00e9s actu\u00f3 como solista con la Orquesta Real de Suecia, comenzando una carrera como pianista de concierto que nunca abandon\u00f3. A la vez, Enflo estudi\u00f3 F\u00edsica y Matem\u00e1ticas, convirti\u00e9ndose en un matem\u00e1tico eminente que ha hecho importantes contribuciones al an\u00e1lisis funcional. En la actualidad es Profesor en la Kent State University, despu\u00e9s de haber ocupado plaza en la Universidad de California en Berkeley, la Universidad de Standford, la Escuela Polit\u00e9cnica de Par\u00eds y el Real Instituto de Tecnolog\u00eda de Estocolmo.<\/p>\n

Hablando de sus inicios como matem\u00e1tico, Enflo ha dicho: \u00abYo iba haciendo mi investigaci\u00f3n matem\u00e1tica con la idea de que deber\u00eda crear alguna \u00abobra de arte\u00bb muy personal – de manera similar a la composici\u00f3n de una pieza musical o la interpretaci\u00f3n de una pieza musical\u00bb. Cuando se le pregunta por su decisi\u00f3n de dedicarse a las matem\u00e1ticas en lugar de a la m\u00fasica, Enflo responde que nunca ha tomado ni tomar\u00e1 jam\u00e1s semejante decisi\u00f3n.[1]<\/sup><\/a> Adem\u00e1s de su trabajo como profesor e investigador, contin\u00faa su carrera como pianista de concierto. Enflo trabaja tambi\u00e9n en temas de ciencia interdisciplinar tales como Evoluci\u00f3n Humana\/Gen\u00e9tica de Poblaciones (sobre los Neandertales), Biolog\u00eda Matem\u00e1tica y Ac\u00fastica.<\/p>\n
