He was awarded the 1987 Nobel Prize in Chemistry for developing methods to measure the kinetics of fast (in the nanoseconds range) chemical reactions in solution. Those methods were based on disturbing the equilibrium by means of very short pulses of energy. Later on, he worked on molecular biology, on the self-organization processes that make life possible and on the origin of life, as well as on the mechanisms of storage of information in the brain. He played chamber music frequently and designed his home as a meeting point for performing music with friends.<a class=\"Estilo13\" href=\"#Cita1\"><sup>[1]<\/sup><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.icmm.csic.es\/within-experimental-error\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/Spanish.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-582 alignleft\" style=\"border: 0pt none;\" title=\"Spanish\" src=\"http:\/\/www.icmm.csic.es\/within-experimental-error\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/Spanish.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"21\" height=\"14\" \/><\/a>Hijo de un chelista profesional, Manfred Eigen (1927-2019) fue un consumado pianista que, sin embargo, dedico toda su vida a la ciencia. Recibi\u00f3 el Premio Nobel de Qu\u00edmica de 1987 por el desarrollo de m\u00e9todos para medir la cin\u00e9tica de reacciones qu\u00edmicas en soluci\u00f3n muy r\u00e1pidas (en el rango de nanosegundos). Dichos m\u00e9todos se basaban en sacar al sistema del equilibrio mediante pulsos de energ\u00eda muy cortos. M\u00e1s adelante,\u00a0 trabaj\u00f3 en biolog\u00eda molecular, en los procesos de autoorganizaci\u00f3n que hacen posible la vida y en el origen de la vida, as\u00ed como en los mecanismos de almacenado de informaci\u00f3n en el cerebro.
