Postdoctoral Position in Quantum Optomechanics
Institution: Spanish National Research Council (CSIC)
Location: Madrid, Spain
Contract Duration: 1 year (renewable depending on funding and performance)
Start Date: As soon as possible
Description:
We are offering a postdoctoral position to work in a state-of-the-art optics laboratory at CSIC (Madrid), focused on the field of quantum optomechanics. The successful candidate will join a multidisciplinary team combining experimental development and theoretical modeling of optomechanical systems operating at the quantum limit.
The project explores light–matter interactions in high-Q mechanical resonators and integrated photonic platforms, with applications in precision sensing and quantum technologies.
Research Topics May Include:
- Cavity optomechanics and quantum control of mechanical motion
- Quantum noise, decoherence, and measurement backaction
- Cryogenic and ultra-high vacuum experiments
- Design and modeling of optomechanical resonators and photonic cavities
- Feedback, control, and quantum state preparation techniques
Requirements:
- PhD in Physics or related discipline
- Strong background in quantum optics, optomechanics, or related areas
- Experience in experimental optics (e.g. lasers, interferometry, cryogenics)
- Familiarity with theoretical modeling of light–matter interaction
- Proven research track record (publications in peer-reviewed journals)
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively
Desirable Skills:
- Programming and data acquisition (Python, LabVIEW, MATLAB)
- Numerical modeling (COMSOL, FDTD, or finite-element tools)
- Micro/nanofabrication or cleanroom experience
We Offer:
- Access to a fully equipped optics laboratory
- Dynamic and supportive research environment
- Collaboration opportunities with leading international research groups
- Competitive salary based on CSIC postdoctoral scale
