María Concepción Gutiérrez

María Concepción Gutiérrez is a Tenured Scientist at the Instituto de Ciencia de Materiales de Madrid (ICMM-CSIC), Spain. In 1996, she received a BSc Degree in Chemistry at the University of Granada (UGR) and, after that, a MSc Degree in Organic Chemistry (1997). In 2001, she obtained her PhD in Organic Chemistry (working on the Use of Microbiological Transformations in Organic Synthesis) also from the UGR.

From 2001 to 2003, she was working in the Group “Biocatalysis and Fine Chemistry” (UMR-CNRS 6111) associated to both the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS) and the Université de la Méditerranée at Marseille (France). Herein and supervised by Prof. Furstoss, she participated in two European projects from the Fourth and the Fifth Framework Programme (BIO4-CT98-0267, BIOMEX QLK3-2001-00403) focused on New Methodologies of Biocatalysis.

In 2004, she joined to the Group of Bioinspired Materials (GBM) at the ICMM-CSIC. Her current scientific interest is focused on a multidisciplinary research field focused on the development of New Routes for the Synthesis and Preparation of Hierarchical and Multifunctional Materials for Applications in Biotechnology and Biomedicine. She has co-authored over 30 scientific papers.
