The INGENIOUS Subproject 1 aims to advance lithium-ion battery technology by integrating artificial intelligence (AI), advanced characterization, and regeneration strategies. It focuses on three main objectives: (1) discovering innovative materials for all battery components using AI, (2) understanding degradation mechanisms through detailed analysis of aged and failed batteries—particularly at electrode–electrolyte interfaces—and (3) developing industrially viable processes, such as plasma and chemical treatments, to regenerate and reuse battery components. By combining machine learning, state-of-the-art experimental techniques, and large-scale research facilities, the project seeks to enable longer-lasting, safer, and more sustainable batteries within a circular economy framework.
