Hi everyone! My name is Carlos García Arcos, and I’m currently pursuing my PhD in the ESISNA group at the Institute of Materials Science of Madrid (ICMM-CSIC). My research focuses on tackling emerging contaminants by studying their interaction with low-dimensional materials through advanced ab initio simulations.
My journey into the fascinating world of science began during the final stages of my undergraduate and master’s studies, where I explored quantum control of molecular motion and ultrafast spectroscopy at the Department of Physical Chemistry of the Complutense University of Madrid. In 2022, I joined the IR-RAMAN spectroscopy group in the Department of Interdisciplinary Physics at the National University of Distance Education as a research assistant. There, I combined computational studies of fluorinated polymer systems with spectroscopic characterization and investigations into the photodegradation of microplastics, work that I continued until moving to ICMM in June 2025.
This trajectory has given me a strong foundation that bridges method and application and has fueled my passion for understanding the microscopic physical world, where it often feels like anything is possible.
As a result of this path, I have authored two first-author papers and one collaborative publication:
