Postdoctoral ResercherMargarita Salas
Dr. Laia León Boigues carried out her Doctoral Thesis at the Institute of Polymers Science and Technology (ICTP-CSIC) in Nanostructured Polymers and Gels group. Now, her postdoctoral work is carried out in the Department of Surfaces, Coatings and Molecular Astrophysics, in the ESISNA Group (Interdisciplinary Studies based on nanoscopic systems).
Her professional career ranges from the management of different polymer synthesis and characterization techniques, the development of new nanomaterials and the incorporation of graphene, to the functionalization of 2D materials. She has developed her professional career in biocompatible materials for Tissue Engineering, in the form of micro- and nano-particles, scaffolds and films, from its synthesis and characterization to participation in viability studies in animals through surgical intervention. In addition, she has experience in 3D printing to make supports with different geometries and different starting raw materials. She has also studied the synthesis of copolymers in a confined space to obtain nanostructures, understanding the impact of approaching the synthesis itself inside nanoreactors (obtained by electrochemical anodization with nanopores of controlled geometry and dimensions). She has also developed polymer/graphene nanocomposites for application in the field of smart textiles.
At the ICMM, her main research line is related with the functionalization of 2D materials, such as graphene and TMDs, with organic molecules. In addition, within the postdoc contract of her Margarita Salas, she will develop the modification of printable (and conventional) electrodes through the inclusion of nanoparticles for the detection of analytes of interest, amplified by the use of nanometric systems.
