The main objectives of MAG4Spinal are:
Objective 1. Design and development of neuroactive magnetic nanocarriers based on superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles with a high magnetic response.
Objective 2. Evaluation of the biocompatibility in vitro of the nanocarriers developed, with particular focus on oxidative stress responses.
Objective 3. Development of an advanced hybrid 3D biomaterial platform composed of a hydrogel-based depot system loaded with the neuroactive nanocarriers.
Objective 4. Assessment of the biocompatibility in vitro of the resulting 3D functional magnetic bio-implants with relevant immune, vascular and neural cell types, including magnetically controlled release of the neuroactive agents.
Objective 5. Study of the regenerative capacity in vivo of the resulting magnetic bio-implants in combination with a motor rehabilitation routine in an experimental model of SCI in rats.
