Bernd Wicklein is a Tenured Scientist at the Materials Science Institute of Madrid (ICMM-CSIC) dedicated to biomass-derived functional materials for energy and environmental applications. This includes the valorization of biomass, the study of nanocomposite materials based on renewable polymers and their exploration in nanoenergy generation, green electronics and smart insulation systems.
Bernd Wicklein was a Ramón y Cajal, Juan de la Cierva and JIN researcher as well as a Visiting Professor at the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology, KAIST (2022/23). He earned his MSc degree from Stuttgart University and his PhD title from the Autonomous University of Madrid, following a postdoctoral period at Stockholm University. Currently, he is the principal investigator of a national (PID2023) and a consolidation project (CNS2023) focused on 3D printing of piezo/triboelectric polymer composites.
