Recent paper on novel multiferroic Aurivillius phases

Our recent advances on the incorporation of magnetically active BiMO3 units in Aurivillius oxides for room-temperature multiferroism and magnetoelectric coupling have been published in the last number of Journal of Materials Chemistry C. An alternative chemical design approach for introducing magnetic species in the pseudoperovskite layer of ferroelectric layered oxides without increasing the number of oxygen octahedra is reported. It is demonstrated that this allows surpassing the threshold for magnetic percolation, and thus several novel room temperature multiferroic Aurivillius compounds are reported.
